There have been a few things in the local news lately about teens not making the best choices (or flat out being bad people) so things like THIS make me so happy -- and not just because I'm a Hayfield High School Alumni -- because I love seeing that this is what "kids these days" can be like!

Chris Pack, the Athletic Director for the Hayfield Vikings shared this story of a note he received from the supervisor at the volleyball match at Lourdes tonight."

"I wanted to write and express my appreciation and admiration for the Hayfield student section after tonight's volleyball game.  As the game ended, the student section (made mostly of boys who later told me they were football players) began cleaning up their trash and other items from where they were sitting on their own accord.  In addition when they saw another student and myself cleaning up a very messy section of the bleachers (where they had NOT been sitting) they came over and completely cleaned it up! They then proceeded to help our head volleyball coach load a row of chairs as well.

What nice young men who went out of their way, with absolutely no prompting or no one asking, to help out others! I was very impressed and thanked them.  Clearly these young men exude personal responsibility and also a sense of helpfulness toward others.  As a teacher myself, I feel that we need to point out good deeds and recognize them when they happen. I hope you will pass along our sincere appreciation for their efforts, and thank you and the Hayfield staff and community for fostering such behavior."

How awesome is this??? I'm so proud!   Well done kids--and go Vikings!
