Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An apparent refrigerant leak shut down a section of North Broadway and prompted the evacuation of a number of businesses in Rochester Tuesday evening.

The Rochester Fire Department was called to the Kemps facility in the 400 block of North Broadway around 7 p.m. after receiving reports of the strong smell of ammonia in the vicinity of the ice cream plant. About 50 workers were evacuated from the Kemps plant and the neighboring Taco Bell restaurant was also shut down and evacuated as a precaution.

Officials indicated two Kemps workers were treated for respiratory irritation at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
