Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Flash flooding was reported Friday afternoon and evening in portions of Waseca, Le Sueur, and Rice Counties after an unexpectedly rainy day across southern Minnesota.

There were numerous reports of water covered roads and flooded basements after Waseca saw nearly 4 inches of rain over a 3 hour period.

Meanwhile,the 24 hour total in Winona was almost 3.3 inches, and nearly 5 inches was reported in sections of western Wisconsin. The National Weather Service recorded only about a half-inch of rain at the Rochester Airport, but nearly an inch fell at the St. Mary's Hospital helipad, and over two inches was reported just northeast of Rochester.

The 24 hour rainfall total in Elgin was the highest near Rochester at 2.2 inches.
