Armed Man Killed by Rochester Officer Was Shot While Inside His Home

Lanesboro, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has issued a statement correcting some of the information released Monday afternoon concerning a fatal police involved shooting in Fillmore County.

The BCA had indicated 45-year-old Kristofer Youngquist was shot by a Rochester police officer when he emerged from his residence carrying a rifle and pointed the weapon at members of the Rochester/Olmsted Emergency Response Unit. Officials now say Youngquist emerged from the home and then retreated back inside and was pointing a gun at law enforcement officers from inside the residence when Sergeant Steve Thompson fired at Youngquist from his position outside of the home.

The BCA says it was later learned the rifle being used by Youngquist was a pellet gun that looks nearly identical to an actual firearm.

The Rochester tactical team was called to the property at the request of the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Department, which was seeking to arrest Youngquist as a suspect in a domestic assault that occurred earlier in the day.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigation into the incident is ongoing.
