Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An Austin man who was involved in a four-hour standoff with Rochester police officers in June has been sent to prison.

The incident began as a domestic assault. Officers were sent to an apartment where a woman reported she had been slapped and choked by 38-year-old Jesse Devriendt. An officer went inside the apartment to talk to Devriendt. He found him on a bed and Devriendt yelled that he had a gun and threatened to open fire. The officer left the apartment and called in the Emergency Response Unit and crisis negotiators.

During the standoff, Devriendt threatened to start a fire and that’s when the ERU took him into custody. No gun was found.

Devriendt pleaded guilty to a domestic assault charge and has been sentenced to three years in prison.
