A handful of Super Bowl ads have already landed online ahead of this Sunday’s big game — it’s the usual mix of TV spots for upcoming movies like Ghost in the Shell and Transformers: The Last Knight, along with a few ads featuring familiar faces like Gal Gadot and John Malkovich promoting businesses and collecting paychecks. And then there’s Honda. Like others, their ad for this year’s Super Bowl also features several beloved celebs, but there’s something kind of unnerving about the execution.
Neon pandas and rainbow-swirled unicorns and bubbly dolphins — that could describe an eight-year-old girl’s psychedelic mushroom trip, or Mariah Carey’s dream journal, or, more likely, a Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper from 1992. The Frank brand is still keeping the dream of the ’90s alive in 2017, and honestly, it’s surprising that it’s taken this long for her candy-colored creations to terrorize the big screen.
Despite lukewarm reviews, Jurassic World made more than enough bank at the box office to guarantee a sequel. Universal recently set a 2018 release date for Jurassic World 2, with The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona taking over for Colin Trevorrow, who will still work on the screenplay with co-writer Derek Connolly. With just under two years until the next installment in the franchise hits theaters, we’ve been wondering when Bayona & Co. might get to work, and according to a new rumor, it won’t be long from now.
Unlike most comedy sequels, the Austin Powers franchise only became more successful at the box office with each additional outing (sorry, Neighbors 2), with Austin Powers in Goldmember generating $300 million worldwide. It’s been 14 years since Mike Myers last donned the mop-top and spouted a bunch of delightfully cheesy innuendoes, and though we may not be any closer to a fourth Austin Powers outing, director Jay Roach says it could still very much happen.
Jennifer Lawrence isn’t contracted for another X-Men sequel, but back in March she seemed pretty happy about the possibility of returning for more films. It’s been two months since then, and while Lawrence appears to be a little less eager about it now, she says that she’ll reprise the role of Raven…there’s just one thing that has to happen. Or maybe two.

You really have no idea how loved a movie is until a studio announces plans to reboot it — such is the case with Jumanji, the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, which performed pretty well at the box office but didn’t leave a big impression on critics and (adult) audiences. But reactions to Dwayne Johnson’s new Jumanji movie offer a valuable lesson in the power of nostalgia, as fans have been quick to cry foul on the reboot. Johnson has heard you, and not only is he committed to making the best reboot possible, but he’s also found a “cool” way to honor the memory of Robin Williams.
Studios have been trying to replicate the success of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s The LEGO Movie, with films based on Play-Doh, Minecraft, Playmobil and more in the works. And while we’ve yet to see exactly how these attempts will pan out, we can add another one to the pile as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have signed on to produce a movie based on the Where’s Waldo? series of books.
Deadpool demolished box office records, quickly becoming the biggest X-Men franchise film of all time and the highest-grossing R-rated film. It certainly wasn’t the first successful R-rated action comedy, but in terms of superhero films, Deadpool made a pretty major splash — which has fans wondering if we’ll see more comic book adaptations take the restricted rating route. While Warner Bros. appears to be open to the possibilities, there’s one studio that definitely won’t be taking a similar tack anytime soon…or ever.
Like last year’s Omaze charity campaign for Star Trek Beyond, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s partnership with the organization has yielded some similarly charming results. The latest video promoting the charity drive features Ben Affleck surprising fans during the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, with the actor hiding out in the new Batmobile and interacting with the crowd — and throwing some shade at Superman, obviously.
