Uff-da this sounds nasty!

I'll be one of the first to admit that I'm a huge fan of the loofah.  I feel weird when I'm at a hotel, or visiting friends and I don't use one when showering.  I find that using one leaves me feeling cleaner and ready to take on the day.

Well, according to dermatologists, this couldn't be farther from the truth.  In fact, 98% of them advise people to throw them in the trash... like immediately.

Now before you go on the rampage and say "here we go again", this actually makes sense.  It all comes down to keeping them clean, like you, after you use them.

Apparently, after you use the loofah, those dead skin cells get trapped in the layers of the loofah's material.  And when you leave it in the shower after you scrub yourself from top to bottom, all the moisture that remains in the aftermath of the warm water, causes bacteria to fester within the layers.  That then leads to the growth of yeast and mold.  Yuck!

On top of all of this, if you use it after you shave, you have the potential of causing infections.  The bacteria can get into the nicks and lead to some bad looking and feeling skin.

So basically what they're saying is you should be mindful of all this and wash it and/or throw them away as often as possible.  Thankfully, they're relatively cheap so it shouldn't be that big an issue.
