Big Crowd Sees Lynx Lose
A picture perfect spring day and Mother's Day failed to keep about 4,500 basketball fans from coming inside to cheer on the Minnesota Lynx in an exhibition game at the Mayo Civic Center Sunday afternoon.
The large and energetic crowd did not provide enough of an advantage, as the Lynx fell to the Washington Mystics 85-68 in a WNBA exhibition game in Rochester.
The Lynx were never in it. The Mystics grabbed an early lead, taking advantage of turn overs and missed shots by Minnesota to head into the locker room at halftime 21 points ahead of the Lynx.
Minnesota started the second half hot and narrowed the Mystic's lead to a dozen points when Washington called for a time out after about 4 minutes of play. The hot run by the Lynx earned the team a standing ovation, but the Mystics came back from the break scoring baskets and soon pushed their lead back above 20 points.
Keisha Hampton led the Lynx with 15 points, followed by Maya Moore with 14 points, and Natasha Howard with 11. Former Gopher Lindsey Whalen was held to just 2 points, while Janel McCarville finished with 3 points. She sat last season, but resigned with the Lynx on Saturday.
The Lynx open the regular season against the Phoenix Mercury Saturday night at Target Center.
