A five-year-old girl was taken to St. Marys hospital yesterday after she got off her school bus and was struck by a vehicle in Byron.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Department says the incident occurred just before 3 PM after the bus made a stop near the 4th St. and 10th Ave NE intersection to drop off the student. A spokesman says witnesses reported the school bus had its warning lights activated and stop arm extended when a 17-year-old boy from Rochester drove past and hit the five-year-old.

She was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle to be treated for a leg injury of unknown severity. There is no information available about her medical condition.
