Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Byron woman was arrested for DUI Thursday night after crashing into a bridge pillar at a southeast Rochester park.

A Police Department spokesman says it happened around 10:45 pm on the north side of Slatterly Park. 21-year-old Leah Cross was southbound on 11th Avenue and instead of following the curve in the road, she went straight down the embankment and crashed into a concrete bridge support, which prevented her vehicle from going into the water.

Cross wasn’t hurt but her 22-year-old passenger was taken to St. Mary’s where she was reported in serious condition Friday morning. A preliminary breath test showed Cross had a blood/alcohol level of .182, more than twice the legal limit.

Court records show Cross was charged last December for underage drinking and driving.  She was placed on probation for one year. She was convicted in March of driving after her license was suspended. She was ticketed again for the same violation in July and on August 10th.

She was arraigned Friday and ordered back to court for another hearing next month.
