Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - One mystery solved by Rochester police and one more to go.

A car that was recently stolen from a local dealership was found burning early Friday at the end of a police chase. But the thief was gone when officers arrived.

The chase began when an Olmsted County deputy tried to make a traffic stop in the area of Marion Rd and County Rd 11 around 1:45 AM. The driver took off at speeds up to 120 mph, heading north on County 11 and the deputy decided to break off the chase.

The driver made his way to County Rd 9, where he headed into the city. A few minutes later a city officer found the car on fire in the 3700 block of Sheffield Lane SE.

Authorities say it appears the driver started the car on fire before he fled the scene. An extensive search was conducted but the suspect could not be found.

It was later determined the 2013 BMW had been stolen Sept 29 from Chaddock Auto Sales.
