Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester woman was arrested Monday night after crashing her car into her apartment building, nearly hitting a baby.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at 2106 Valleyhigh Drive NW.

Police Lt. Mike Sadauskis says 60-year-old Debra Jensen was parking her vehicle when it accelerated and slammed into the occupied apartment. The vehicle ended up in the living room about a foot away from the baby, who suffered a cut to one of her fingers. A man and woman were in the kitchen at the time. They were not hurt.

Sadauskis says alcohol was detected on Jensen’s breath and she was given a preliminary test. It indicated her blood/alcohol level was near the legal limit. Officers suspected she may also have been on medication and she was given a series of sobriety tests. Sadauskis says Jensen did not do that well and was arrested on a criminal vehicular operation charge.

The occupants of the apartment were forced to go elsewhere as the Fire Department determined the unit was not safe due to structural damage.

Firefighters had to use shoring materials to ensure the unit above the damaged apartment was safe for its occupants.
