Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester area man created quite a scene at the Rochester St. Mary's Hospital emergency room Thursday.

Winona County deputies brought 41-year-old Christopher Swinger to the Olmsted County jail Thursday afternoon. An arrest warrant had been issued earlier for Swinger and he was apprehended in Winona.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Capt Scott Behrns says jail staff decided not to accept him because he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He was then taken to the ER and that’s when the trouble began inside the garage area.

Behrns says Swinger became violent while still in the squad car. He then held a needle nose pliers to his throat and began making suicidal threats. When he refused to cooperate, officers used Tasers to subdue him. He was eventually medically sedated and kept at the hospital for observation.

Court records show Swinger has a criminal history dating back to 1994.
