Chatfield Man Sentenced for Chase and Shooting
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the men involved in a shooting and car chase in Rochester in February has been sentenced to six months in jail and seven years on probation.
21-year-old Jamil James of Chatfield earlier entered into a plea agreement and admitted to a second degree assault charge. Two other felony assault charges and an aggravated robbery charge were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Rochester police say the shooting in February started as a “drug deal that went bad” in the parking lot of the Taco Bell store near Target North. A teenager reported that he got into a vehicle with two men and one of them pointed a gun at him. The teen told police he then ran back to his car and began chasing the other vehicle while he phoned 911 to report the incident. Police say shots were fired from the vehicle being chased by the teenager on 37th Street Northwest near West River Parkway.
James and 22-year-old Keith West were apprehended after a state trooper later located their car in the Elton Hills neighborhood near Hoover Elementary School.
West also pleaded guilty to felony charges in the case and is also awaiting sentencing.
