Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Corporal Curtis M Swenson Memorial Fund will have a short program Tuesday to present five high school students from southeast Minnesota $1000 scholarships for educational purposes.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Soldiers Field Memorial at 6:00 PM.

Swenson was a 2007 Mayo High School graduate who joined the Marines and served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.  His future plans had included college. His family started the scholarship fund shortly after his death and so far, have given eleven scholarship awards.

Funds for the scholarships have been raised through an annual golf tournament hosted by the Swenson family. The next one will take place at Willow Creek Golf Course this coming Saturday (June 4).

Donations not only support the CPL Curtis M Swenson Memorial Scholarship, but help local veterans, active military and their families.
