Additional Information

PACER Center will offer “Special Education and the Important Role You Play for Your Child,” a free workshop for parents of children with disabilities and for professionals. It will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13 at Comfort Suites, 4141 Maine Ave. S.E., Rochester.

Parents play an important role in the special education process. Participants in this workshop will learn how parents can use their rights and abilities to advocate for their child and work effectively with the school.

This workshop for parents of children with special needs, and professionals working with them, will answer questions, such as:

  • What is the definition of “parent,” and who needs to and can be appointed as a surrogate parent?
  • Why is it important that parents be involved?
  • How can parents effectively work with the school?
  • What do parents need to know about the special education process, and how do special education and regular education work together?

This event is funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education.

To register to attend this free workshop, contact PACER Center at (952) 838-9000 or (800) 537-2237 (toll free), email PACER@PACER.org, or visit PACER.org/workshops.
