It was well known that this weekend was going to be ugly in terms of the weather, and for many in Southeast Minnesota, the forecast just got uglier.

The National Weather Service has extended a Blizzard Warning to almost all of Southern Minnesota including Preston, Rochester, Owatonna and Albert Lea starting at 6 p.m. Saturday and last until 6 p.m. Sunday, with wind guest at nearly 40 mph. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising people not to travel in the whiteout conditions Saturday night and through Sunday.

A combination of ice, snow, and rain is expected to fall Saturday across the area, and with any untreated roads could be very slick as Saturday rolls on and temperatures are expected to be in the mid-30s. Precipitation is expected to switch to all snow when the temperature drops Saturday evening.

Up to a foot of snow has been forecasted for the Rochester area, and while the snow falls Saturday evening, the wind is expected to pick up. The Blizzard Warning as extended to nearly all of Southern Minnesota, south of I-94. Be safe and plan ahead if you have to travel at all this weekend.
