Bloomington, MN (Learfield Wire Service) -  Police in Bloomington are investigating an explosion Thursday night that left a man with serious burns and other injuries.

Officials say the blast occurred in the backyard of a home in the Twin Cities suburb and prompted the evacuation of some neighboring homes for a few hours. The Bloomington Bomb Squad was called to the scene and found flash powder that is normally used in commercial fireworks. At this point, investigators say appears the explosion was an accident.

The injured man was brought to the Hennepin County Medical Center with a significant hand injury and burns. He also had injuries caused by shrapnel flying into his chest. His name and information about his condition have not been released.
