Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Rochester firefighters were sent to a southeast home early Monday after receiving a report of an external fire.

The call came in around 1:30 AM from 1816 23 ½ ST SE, a few blocks east of Willow Creek middle school.

The homeowners used a garden hose to begin fighting the fire until firefighters arrived.

The Fire Dept says there was damage to the siding, a window and some interior sheetrock. The preliminary damage estimate was put at $5,000. It appears wood chips around the exterior of the house caught fire.

The cause is under investigation.
