Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for the Foo Fighters, will be in Rochester today.

He is going to be drumming for and mentoring the students as part of a celebration of the new Turnaround Arts program at Riverside Central Elementary School in Rochester.

Turnaround Arts empowers high-need, low-performing schools with arts resources, art, music, theater and/or dance programs, musical instruments, arts integration across subject areas, and a Turnaround Artist mentor, as a strategy to address broad school challenges and turn around struggling schools.

In Minnesota, Turnaround Arts is run in partnership with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, a state agency committed to ensuring that students in Minnesota learn and achieve through the arts. 

Riverside is one of 68 Turnaround Arts schools across the country, and eight in MinnesotaAs part of the Turnaround Arts program, Minnesota schools receive professional development, support, and materials from the Perpich Center and support from Turnaround Arts’ national partners including the Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, Americans for the Arts, Crayola, the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation, the Ford Foundation and Music Theater International.
