Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Austin funeral home director is awaiting sentencing for having sex with a teenage girl he met while arranging a family member’s funeral.

37-year-old Eric Weerts today entered into a plea agreement and admitted to second and third degree criminal sexual conduct charges. Another third degree charge was dismissed through the plea deal.

The criminal complaint alleged Weerts first communicated with the victim through a messaging app and eventually had sexual contact with her multiple times, beginning when she was 15-years-old. Court documents also indicate the girl’s mother told investigators she has a cognitive disability and was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder connected to a previous sexual assault.

The sentencing hearing for Weerts has been scheduled on August 18th at the Mower County Courthouse.
