Minneapolis, MN (Gophersports.com) - Sara Groenewegen has been named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week as well as Pitcher of the Week after leading the No. 22 University of Minnesota Gophers to a series sweep over Purdue this past weekend, the conference announced Monday.

Groenewegen hit .800 (4-for-5) on the weekend with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored while drawing four walks and getting hit by one pitch. She had an on-base percentage of .900 while recording a 1.600 slugging percentage. This is the first time she has earned Player of the Week honors.

For the tenth time in her career and already fourth this season, Groenewegen earned Pitcher of the Week honors picking up two wins and a save. She struck out 24 batters and allowed only six hits in 16.0 innings pitched without a single earned run for a 0.00 weekend ERA. She fanned five batters including the last three in just 10 pitches to complete the sweep in the series finale.

The last Minnesota Big Ten Player of the Week was Erica Meyer on Feb. 23, 2015.
