Guilty Plea for Shooting and Chase in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Chatfield man has admitted to a second degree assault charge for his involvement in a shooting and car chase in Rochester in February.
Two other felony assault charges and an aggravated robbery charge against 21-year-old Jamil James were dismissed through a plea agreement.
Rochester police say the shooting in February started as a “drug deal that went bad” in the parking lot of the Taco Bell store near Target North. A teenager reported that he got into a vehicle with two men and one of them pointed a gun at him. The teen told police he then ran back to his car and began chasing the other vehicle while he phoned 911 to report the incident. Police say shots were fired from the vehicle being chased by the teenager on 37th Street Northwest near West River Parkway.
James and 22-year-old Keith West were apprehended after a state trooper later located their car in the Elton Hills neighborhood near Hoover Elementary School.
James is scheduled to be sentenced in early October. West earlier pleaded guilty to felony charges in the case and is also awaiting sentencing.
