After reading this, you’ll rethink your next trip to the restroom.

According infection specialists, covering the toilet seat with a layer of paper is not only useless - it may actually increase your risk of coming into contact with bacteria.

“Toilet seats are not a vehicle for the transmission of any infectious agents—you won’t catch anything,” says William Schaffner, professor and infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

So the next time you have to use the restroom, I'd rethink placing toilet liners and toilet paper on the seat.  Unlike toilet seats, paper is an ideal carrier for all kinds of bacteria.  So you when you lay down some paper, pick it up again when you’re done, and then probably touch your face, you’re likely exposing yourself to more bacteria... which defeats the point of doing all this in the first place!
