If you have young children you need to be extra careful over the next few days as forecasters are calling for extremely hot temperatures. Follow these tips to ensure the safety of your kids:

Know the warning signs:

Is your child cranky? Really tired and lethargic? Is your child not eating or drinking? Not going to the bathroom as much as they usually do?

These are all signs of dehydration. Don't let your child get to this point, make sure they are consuming plenty of fluids and taking a lot of breaks from the hot summer sun. If you suspect your child may be dehydrated you are encouraged to take them to the doctor immediately.

Heat index readings are expecting to be in the triple digit range so we recommend staying indoors. If you are going outside to play here are some tips to help keep your child cool.

Dress them in light clothing and do not forget to apply sunscreen. Did you know sunscreen works best when applied 20 minutes prior to going outside?

Stay in the shade!

If you have some yarn at home, braid a necklace, soak it in water and freeze it. Then put it around your kid's neck before they go out to help keep them cool.

And as we mentioned above take plenty of indoor breaks and drink plenty of fluids.
