Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The man who called 911 and helped an older man out of a burning house in Country Club Manor on Sunday afternoon called KROC-AM news this morning to thank the 911 dispatcher for her assistance and talk about the incident.

The fire was noticed around 3 p.m. afternoon and started in the home's garage. A passerby stopped and called 911 and then worked to help get a man out of the house. The man's adult son, who was originally believed to also be in the house, was out running errands and returned to the home about the same time as his father was getting out. That man then entered the home to get a dog out.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Belau identified the 911 caller as Tom Owens.

There's no word yet on just what caused the blaze, but early estimates suggest the home sustained somewhere in the area of $100,000 in damage.
