Dangerous travel conditions have prompted several schools in our area to close for the day. See that list here. Earlier this morning The National Weather Service in La Crosse provided an update on what to expect today:

They posted this message to their Facebook page: "A wintry mix of precipitation is going to spread across the area today and tonight, with hazardous to dangerous travel conditions developing over portions of the area. Rain or a wintry mix early this morning will change to snow over parts of SE MN into north-central WI thru the morning, with the snow then heavy at times today before diminishing tonight. Mainly rain is expected farther south and east across the area. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible today. In between, small adjustments in track could significantly impact precipitation types and amounts, especially in areas from around Austin and Winona MN to Neillsville WI. Stay up to date with the latest forecast and be prepared for difficult travel to develop across parts of the area today." The map above shows expected snow totals for our region.
