I've seen a ton of people on Facebook, talking about a huge winter storm, that's going to dump 20-40 inches of snow on us. Is there any truth to these reports?  Here's what the National Weather Service in La Crosse says:

1) Take a deep breath – any potential storm is a week away. It’s too soon to be narrowing down the track or potential impacts from this storm system.
2) Extended forecast models have a tendency to change their “forecast” several times before they start to narrow in on a more likely solution. For this potential storm, the models have already “flip-flopped” several times while remaining in disagreement with each other. No consensus, thus low confidence in how this storm will develop.
3) Trumpeting a significant, impactful storm when so much is unknown, is a disservice to you. We won’t do that.
4) We’re paying attention. We are watching it closely. If the storm looks like it could strike our area, you can count on us to let you know, well in advance. This is why we are here, 24/7.

Bottom-line: make sure you know the source of your information. Did it come from the National Weather Service or another trusted media outlet, source? Is it in our forecast? If not, follow up and see if we are talking about it. If we aren’t, then it’s either too soon to tell or (likely) not a big deal.

As of right now, the forecast calls for snow next Tuesday. How much? It's too early to tell, but I wouldn't bet on 20-40 inches.
