There has been a lot going on behind the closed doors of Toys "R" Us. After filing bankruptcy in 2018 and closing hundreds of stores, Tru Kids Brands took over last October. According to CNN Business, they took over the former company's other assets and brands too, including Babies "R" Us and Geoffrey the Giraffe.

All the U.S. stores were already closed when they took over, but they kept 900 stores open in Europe, Asia, and India. They want to open another 70 stores overseas AND relaunch in the U.S. Will that include Rochester? That's undetermined at this time. They also don't know when it will happen but are pushing for later this year.

Their concern? How do they compete with big-box rivals like Walmart and Target, both of which sold more toys than Toys "R" Us? They are looking for ways to differentiate themselves, "perhaps by reinventing the experience for parents and giving them a reason to go to the store."
