Researchers have too much time on their hands.

Multiple animal researchers have said that monkeys, apes, cats, dogs, rats and mice, horses, and even sharks have shown the ability to "laugh" when being tickled.  Don't expect a ha-ha from your four-legged friend though.  Experts say animals vocalize their laugh in many different ways. For example, studies on dogs show that their laugh is a rapid heavy pant.

Long story, short - Researchers have too much time on their hands!
