While many people in Rochester live pretty comfortably, there is a portion of our city's population that simply does not. Sometimes, those people just need a little help to get by.

We see evidence of that in different ways everyday. Whether it's in the faces of the homeless who panhandle on area street corners, the backpacks filled with food every weekend and sent home with elementary school kids who might otherwise not eat over that period of time, or the various annual food and clothing drives that take place in the area throughout the year, many people and organizations in the Rochester area try to do what they can to help.

Despite the efforts of many in our community, many students in our area struggle with just having their basic needs met - and that includes their hygiene needs. The students, faculty and staff at John Adams Middle School are trying to help change that by holding a personal hygiene drive through the month of April.

They need your help! The school is collecting the following items: laundry soap, dryer sheets, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, body lotion, lip balm, feminine products, baby powder, hand sanitizer, deodorant, hair products, sanitary wipes, brushes, combs, nail clippers and aftershave.

To donate, simply drop off any of the above-mentioned products at the John Adams Middle School main office anytime during school hours between now and May 1. Your donation will help students in need improve their hygiene and, quite possibly, their attitude about themselves.
