A student at the Alternative Learning Center in Byron was taken into custody yesterday after a loaded rifle and a large amount of ammunition were found under the back seat of his car. Olmsted County Sheriff Department Sergeant Tom Claymon says the mother of the 17 year old from Racine contacted the school. Claymon says the teen told his mother he was concerned about some issues involving his girlfriend. The mother says she told her son not to take the gun when he drove his car to school.

Deputies found the uncased 22 caliber rifle, more than 100 bullets and some knives in the teen’s car. He told the deputies he uses the gun for hunting.

Claymon says there were no threats involved in the case and the school was not in any danger but the teen was arrested for possession of dangerous weapons on school property.
