A Health Science student here in Rochester is wrapping up his undergraduate program with the goal of traveling halfway across the world!

For two months, Bryar Hansen will be volunteering in Ghana. When I spoke with him, he said this will be the second trip of this kind, the first being when he studied abroad in Barcelona. He said, "I just realized how crazy big the world really is. Being from little West Salem, WI, I never really got to explore the world around me. With this opportunity, I'll not only be able to keep adventuring, but I get to help a community that desperately needs it.

He will be spending his time at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital working alongside medical professionals and taking part in one-on-one patient care. "I will also have the ability to teach public health and disease prevention at some of the local schools in the coastal community" according to his GoFundMe page

According to the World Health Organization, the most common diseases in Ghana include cholera, pulmonary tuberculosis, and malaria, just to name a few.

I think it takes a VERY special person to dedicate yourself to something like this. My sister in law is currently in the Peace Corps in Guatemala. I couldn't be more proud of her! OR Bryar! Bravo to all the amazing people helping save the world!
