According to the job-search website TheLadders, a potential employer spends just six seconds looking over a resume. If you're looking for a new position, you want to make sure that your resume stands out above the rest.

Men's Health has a few tips on how to make your resume pop.

One of the simplest tricks to make your resume work smarter for you, is to use your middle initial! According to the European Journal of Social Psychology, adding your middle initial to your resume makes you immediately appear smarter!

Under your full name, including your middle initial, should be the good stuff. Put your best foot forward. Use a headline that announces and highlights your accomplishments. If you are applying for a sales position, use a headline like "Award-Winning Sales Experience."

Then, put your accomplishments in the simplest, most flattering context. Don't just present your information in a dry, black-and-white way; color your resume by showing that your efforts and work improved conditions with your previous employer.

Use those six seconds to draw a potential employer in and hook them on choosing you.
