Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - The Rochester fire Department responded to a farm in Marion Township Wednesday afternoon to rescue a man after he became trapped in a muddy creek bed.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Belau says the call came in just before 2 PM from a property at 4135 45th Street Southeast. He says a 60-year-old man was working along a creek bed when he slipped in and found himself stuck in mud up to his waist. Belau says the man was working alone when he became trapped in the mud around 11 a.m.

He was finally discovered by the homeowner who called 911 after attempts to pull him out using a rope and a car were unsuccessful. The responding firefighters used an air line to disrupt the suction created by the mud, and a water hose to dislodge some rocks trapping the man’s ankle to free him just before 3 p.m.

Belau says it did not appear the man suffered any serious injuries and he was in good spirits after the ordeal, but he was was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for an evaluation.
