Rochester, MN  (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Park Board was briefed Tuesday on two significant master plans that are in the works.

One involves renovation and upgrades at the Quarry Hill Park and Nature Center. The plan would add more amenities and the exhibit space of the center would be expanded.

The other is the proposed new Gamehaven Park. Staff has been working on the concept with the Gamehaven Boy Scouts Council and others. The proposal calls for an all-season recreational park that would include trails for summer and winter use, including Nordic skiing.

The site is located a few miles south of Mayo High School along County Road 1 and 45th street southeast. The city is in talks to acquire more property that is needed to complete the park and the board was told the owners have been cooperative.

The Parks Department is seeking money from a state fund to help pay for both projects. The estimated costs are $3 million for the Quarry Hill project and $8 - $12 million for the Gamehaven proposal.

The master plans are expected to be voted on by the Park Board at its June meeting.
