The Mayo Clinic has announced plans to open a new Sports Medicine Center in downtown Minneapolis.

The facility will be part of the redevelopment of a complex next to Target Center that had been known as Block E.  Mayo is teaming up with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, which announced plans for a new practice facility that will share the third level of the building with the Mayo Sports Medicine Center.  The entire complex is being renamed “Mayo Clinic Square.”  The 20,000 square foot Mayo facility will offer health and well-being programs, injury prevention, performance solutions, along with rehabilitation services and sports-specific skills programs.  Officials say it will be similar to the new 25,000 square foot Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center expansion at the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center in Rochester. The arrangement announced Tuesday also includes designating Mayo as the preferred medical provider for the professional basketball teams.
