Minnesota 5th Graders Do Way More Than Just Stick Up For A Special Needs Student
When five fifth-graders in Mankato saw James Willmert, a kid with special needs, getting bullied at recess they stuck up for him, befriended him, and then did something really cool.
First, Gus Gartzke, Tyler Jones, Jake Burgess, Landon Kopischke, and Jack Pemble made sure the bullying stopped, not just that day but everyday at recess. Then the boys invited James to start sitting with them at lunch and playing with them at recess. They also helped with little things like opening a bag of chips or tying his shoes.
Recently one of the boys asked James what video games he has. James said he didn't have any. The 5 boys then pooled their money together and bought him a PlayStation.
James' mother says the impact that these boys have had is huge. She says they've "change his life."
