The Minnesota Twins honored KROC-AM during an event on Saturday as the winner of the 2014 John Gordon/Twins Territory Affiliate of the Year Award.

The honor was presented to members of the KROC-AM staff by Twins President David St. Peter during an awards ceremony on Saturday. Twins radio announcer Cory Provus and Twins great Tony Oliva also participated in the event at the Ford Center in Minneapolis preceding the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field.

The annual award was created following the retirement of longtime Twins announcer John Gordon in 2011 to recognize the radio station affiliate that demonstrates the “best of Twins Territory” in their commitment as advocates of the Minnesota Twins in their community.

KROC-AM has broadcast Twins games for 30-plus years and has been a part of every Twins Winter Caravan. Each week, KROC-AM also carries the Ron Gardenhire Show, the daily Twins Minute, game wraps and promotions of upcoming Twins games. This year KROC-AM also broadcast the Major League Baseball All-Star Game held in Minneapolis.

For over 15 years, KROC-AM carried a weekly show with John Gordon. He would join “Rochester’s Good Morning” host Rich Peterson on Wednesday morning’s to “talk Twins baseball,” and that tradition that has been continued with the current voice of the Minnesota Twins, Cory Provus.

Twins President David St. Peter noted KROC-AM’s assistance in the grassroots online campaign that led to the awarding of a $500,000 grant to the Rochester-based Channel One Food Bank earlier this year.

He also announced the John Gordon Award includes a $5,000 grant to a, yet to be announced, baseball-related non-profit group in the Rochester area.
