Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) -  A Minnesota woman went before a federal judge in Minneapolis on Monday and pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges.

49-year-old Irina Vorotinov of Plymouth admitted falsely claiming that her former husband had died in order to collect on a $2 million life insurance policy.

The case dates back to 2011, when a body was discovered in Moldova and documents recovered with the remains identified the deceased as Igor Vorotinov. Prosecutors say his ex-wife traveled to Moldova and positively identified the body as her ex-husband and then directed that his remains be cremated even though she knew the person was not her husband.

The key evidence in the case involved the couple’s son who was stopped while entering the country a few years later and was found to possessing digital photos that clearly show Igor Vorotinov was alive in 2013.
