New Rochester Police Station Proposed
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council was briefed Monday on some options to deal with current and future space needs facing the Police Department.
A consultant presented four options that contained three proposed new buildings, including a new central police station and a new north site.
That option is the one recommended by the consultant, along with a recommendation to look into options to deal with parking needs, including a possible new ramp. The estimated project cost of a new station is $19 million. It would be located next to the city’s public works complex near Foster-Arend Park.
City Administrator Steve Kvenvold told the council his staff will analyze the recommendation and report back at another meeting. He says the project cost could be covered through the sale of bonds.
The Council did not take any action but most members indicated they would prefer an incremental approach in dealing with police space needs. This could involve talks with Olmsted County and the Sheriff’s Department about the current and future use of shared space.
