"Hand-me-downs" are great. Everyone knows how expensive having kids can be - these gently used items provide much needed financial relief. I'm so grateful for all of the kids clothes and toys that our friends passed on to us when we had our children. There is no shame is sharing - just be aware that certain toys could be dangerous for your kids.

A new study from researchers at the EU Toy Safety Directive showed that more than ten percent of "hand-me-down" toys contained high levels of toxic chemicals which could lead to lead poisoning. Lead poisoning could trigger seizures and in some cases could be fatal.

The good news is that the toys that tested positive for these chemicals were all made prior to 1995. New safety regulations were implemented in 1995.This warning is for parents who might have toys saved from their own childhood. Don't give those to your kid -get rid of them!
