Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police officers were called to Century High School around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to deal with an out of control student.

Police Captain John Sherwin says the 18-year-old was in the school’s office with his mother when the incident began. The first officer to arrive tried to get the student to calm down but he instead began swinging his backpack. After being hit in the arm several times, the officer and some school staff members were finally able to get the student under control.

Sherwin says the student, who is six feet tall, was taken to St. Mary’s for an evaluation. He says the student could be charged with assaulting the officer.

A total of five officers and two county deputies responded to the call.
