An Elgin man has pleaded guilty in a case involving the interception of a significant drug shipment.

50-year-old Daniel Gernes admitted to a first-degree drug sale charge Tuesday afternoon in Olmsted County Court and was sentenced to 11 ½ years in prison. He was arrested in November of last year after he went to a vacant home in northwest Rochester and picked up a package that contained a pound of methamphetamine.

The U.S. Postal Service had previously intercepted the package from Oregon and alerted Rochester Police, who had the home under surveillance. Investigators later searched his home in Elgin and seized almost $60,000 dollars in cash.
