Rochester MN (KROC AM News) - The owners of the dog that attacked a Rochester toddler Sunday night have decided to euthanize the animal.

The adult male pit bull was placed into quarantine by the Rochester Police Department after the mauling that left the 2 year old boy with severe and life threatening injuries. Police Captain John Sherwin says the decision to euthanize the dog was made today.

Sherwin says the dog attacked the boy at the Elton Hills School playground and bit him in the head and neck for 5 minutes before he was pulled away.  At last check, the toddler was still in critical condition.

An account has been set up through Sterling State Bank to help with the toddler’s medical expenses. Donations should be made to the Avian Matthews Family Beneficiary Account.
