This is probably my new favorite trend! I've discovered a love for re-purposed furniture and decorations. The hubby and I go to the cities to find stuff JUST LIKE THIS all the time. Fortunately, I discovered this gem, happening right here in Rochester. Haven't heard of the Occasional Market? Find out more here.

I don't think I can explain how my obsession with this type of thing began. My dad sets up at flea markets on a very regular basis, and is obsessed with garages sales and thrift stores, so maybe it came from him. Maybe it came from me thinking I could do anything myself thanks to Pinterest and HGTV. I'm not sure, but I'm 100% okay with having this obsession. Being able to have one-of-a-kind furniture and home decor, among the many other things you may stumble upon, well, you just can't put a price tag on that.

What is the Occasional Market? I talked with Karen Reilly who is one of the coordinators. Here's how she explained it.

"Our shows feature some of the best talent from the Rochester area. We have vendors who create one-of-a-kind items like acrylic paintings, hand-painted signs or re-loved furniture. Another vendor may feature vintage items and another vendor may specialize in antiques. The vendors change for each show and the number of vendors attending changes for each show." Karen is originally from North Dakota, where she had been doing pop-up shows for years. When she moved to Rochester, she wanted to bring that fun to us! This is the Occasional Market's second year in Rochester.

They have five shows scheduled for this year, with the first one coming up this weekend! They will be set up in the Northwest Dental parking lot on Superior Drive (near Costco). Open 10 am until 3 pm.

See some of the stuff you'll be able to buy on their Facebook page.
