There used to be a Wet Seal in the Apache Mall for 9 years, but it closed several years ago. Wet Seal closed 338 of its then-511 stores in January 2015, shortly before the company filed for bankruptcy protection.

Foot traffic in the stores that remained has significantly dropped, forcing the company to announce the closure of all 171 stores. This includes several Minnesota locations, including the Mall of America.

Wet Seal isn't the only brand facing store closures as shoppers ditch malls. The Limited shut down all 250 of its stores and laid off 4,000 workers. Sears and Macy's are mall staples, and have announced mass closures this year, with Sears planning to close 150 namesake stores and Kmart stores in 2017 and Macy's planning to close another 100 stores.
