The MyFitnessPal app is one my all time favorites. I've been using it for at least 5 years. If you don't have it, it's a stellar food tracking app. It's a great way to stay on track. Unfortunately, they suffered a serious data breach, and the amount of users affected is unknown at this time.

During the month of February "an unauthorized party acquired data associated with MyFitnessPal user accounts." It wasn't discovered by app security until late March. According to an email I received from their Chief Digital Officer, the affected information includes "usernames, email addresses, and some passwords."

What are they doing to fix the issue?

According to the Security Information FAQ on their website, "they have quickly taken steps to determine the nature and scope of the issue. We are working with leading data security firms to assist in our investigation. We have also notified and are coordinating with law enforcement authorities."

How do we protect ourselves?

Operators recommend you change your password immediately. Also if you use the same password for OTHER sites, change those as well. They also suggest being cautious when you receive links in emails.
