Pregnant women know more than anyone that what they eat has consequences, both positive and negative for mommy and baby. A food that was deemed a no no for moms and moms-to-be is getting a second look.

The FDA (Food And Drug Administration) has stepped back from its warning for pregnant women and breastfeeding moms that fish should be avoided. In fact, they're now recommending fish as a regular part of your diet, stating that it helps in development of the nervous system and the brain for baby, in and out of the womb. Pregnant women who consume large amounts of fish also stand to benefit from lowered risks of preterm birth and low birth weight.

So why the switch? The long-running theory was that many species of fish, because of polluted water, contain levels of mercury unsafe for babies. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is backing off those claims, too. For years they warned that a maximum amount of fish that should be consumed is 2-3 servings per week. That number is now the minimum! Wild-caught Pacific Sardines, Alaskan Salmon and Arctic Char are all suggested fish that you can enjoy right now!
