A Rochester man has been sent to prison for an incident in June that involved a chase with Olmsted County deputies.

Authorities say 25 year old Brett Kuehl stole a pickup truck in Byron and minutes later nearly crashed head-on into a deputy’s squad car. He then drove to the nearby Kalmar Township reservoir where he got out and ran into the water.

After he refused to come out, a police dog was sent in after him Kuehl tried holding the dog underwater but instead, was bitten several times in the face, neck and head and almost lost an ear before he finally gave up.

He later pled guilty to a vehicle theft charge and five other counts were dismissed. He has been sentenced to 19 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of nearly $6100.
